HPWBANA hosts a handful of annual events to keep the neighborhood community spirit active. These events rely on help from volunteers, so this is a great way to get involved and get to know your neighbors. The location is usually Perry Park, next to Highland Park Elementary. Contact HPWBANA Events committee to see how to help.
Annual Spring Egg Hunt at Perry Park
One of our most popular and well attended events, the spring Egg Hunt is held in late March or early April. Older children have to opportunity to hide eggs in Perry Park, and areas are segmented by age group so children of all ages can find eggs. Prizes awarded for finding the golden egg, and the Easter Bunny is in attendance for photos.
Annual 4th of July Celebration at Perry Park
The HPWBANA has been hosting a 4th of July Celebration for many years. The main event is the parade around the block where families and pets come out decked in red, white and blue. There are lots of events to keep people entertained and these change from year to year depending upon interest from volunteers getting involved.
Movie in Perry Park
The Movie in Perry Park started several years ago with a handmade screen stretched across the lower soccer field goal post. It has evolved into a more polished production with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Rolling Roadshow now handling the show, complete with a huge blowup screen. Sponsors from the community help fund the event and HPWBANA coordinates a concession stand with pizza, snacks and drinks. Residents even pitch in with special items like a popcorn stand and music. Over the years Movie in Perry Park has shown the following: “Babe”, “Cars”, “Madagascar”, and most recently, “ET”. If you have any suggestions on movies or would like to fund the event, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
HPWBANA Annual Meeting
The HPWBANA Annual Meeting is held in the fall, usually in November. It is a great way to learn what HPWBANA has done for the neighborhood over the previous year, as well as an opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other. Look for the notice in the newsletter, the website and the listserv.
